Lana and environs

Located in the heart of the Val d’Adige/Etschtal Valley, the Alpine-Mediterranean town of Lana combines rural charm with urban comfort. Lana is the biggest and oldest apple-growing town in South Tyrol/Südtirol, and is an ideal starting point for discovering South Tyrol’s many hiking and cycling routes. Above Lana rises Mount Vigiljoch. Closed to public traffic but easily accessible by cableway, Mount Vigiljoch is highly popular among families, nature lovers and mountain bikers. The village offers a wide range of outdoor and indoor activities, as well as numerous cultural events. Lana is partly rural in character but also a vibrant town with many shopping opportunities and restaurants in the center.

Thanks to its central location, this vibrant town on the Adige River is an ideal starting point for a variety of active and leisure holiday activities at all altitudes: from leisurely hikes in the valley to challenging mountain climbing at one of several 3,000m high peaks and mountain bike tours in the fascinating surrounding mountains.

Passionate cyclists will find historic passes and mountain roads in Lana and surroundings, while families may prefer a stroll along the Waalwege trails, exploring the child-friendly hiking trails on the Vigiljoch mountain, or cycling in comfort along the Etschradweg trail or the South Tyrolean Wine Route.

SUMMER


A holiday in Lana is about more than just hiking, cycling and biking. In summer there are numerous opportunities for swimming, climbing, horse riding, tennis, rafting and river boating. In Cermes there is also a paragliding landing site, and a 9-hole golf course at the foot of the Brandis Castle ruin, playable from February to November.

The Lana golf course on the Brandis Estate is set among vineyards and apple orchards at the foot of the old Brandis Castle. The mostly level green on the 9-hole course makes it particularly suitable for beginners. At almost 2.8 kilometers in length, the course nevertheless requires muscle-power and precision, and can challenge even experienced players.

The outdoor pools in the area range from the modern Terme Merano to various panoramic and natural pools and family pools. Natural forest lakes also invite you for a swim. In addition, local tour companies offer organized day trips to the Italian cities of Verona and Venice, to the Dolomites, and to Lake Garda, bringing additional variety to your holiday.


WINTER

Five ski areas in the immediate vicinity provide fun and outdoor activity also in winter in Lana.
